Where do the ratings come from?
The ratings in the chart are based on the classical rules of astrology, that is on the aspect – the angle at which the signs lie in relation to each other on the zodiac wheel:
- Trine (same element) – e.g. Aries and Leo. Natural understanding and a similar temperament. The highest rating.
- Sextile (complementary elements) – Fire with Air, Earth with Water. Easy cooperation and mutual inspiration.
- Opposition (opposite signs) – e.g. Taurus and Scorpio. A strong attraction of opposites that learn from each other.
- Same sign – enormous understanding, but also the same weaknesses.
- Neighbouring signs – different elements but a shared path; the relationship takes work.
- Square and quincunx – signs that speak different “languages”. These pairings are demanding but often very enriching.
If two signs share the same traditional ruler (e.g. Taurus and Libra – Venus, Aries and Scorpio – Mars), the rating goes up one step, because such pairs share a common planetary “note”.
