The Chakras: Seven Energy Centres in the Body

Czakry – siedem centrów energii
  • Chakras – working with light

A human being is a spiritual being that has a body. Besides the physical body, we also have subtle bodies: the etheric, emotional, mental, astral and spiritual bodies.

Each of these bodies has its own field of radiation. The energy bodies interpenetrate one another and can exist in the same space, because each has a different vibration. The higher the vibration, the wider the reach of the aura.

The chakras are a person’s energy centres, through which energy is taken in from the surroundings, the Earth and the universe. There are seven main chakras. They distribute energy throughout the body and transform it into the right frequencies that a person needs to sustain the processes of the physical body and the subtle bodies.

By working with these energies, you can deepen your access to these realms. You get to know yourself and realise that you are more than just a physical body.

There are various exercises for sensing the energy bodies. I will focus on one, used by Dantre Schamus (“Practical Steps in Spiritual Development”).

  1. Sit comfortably, relax, close your eyes and press your palms together as if in prayer.
  2. Slowly draw your hands apart, paying attention to what you feel. Repeat this movement a few times. Feel the energy between your hands as you bring them together and move them apart.
  3. Working with light, you can experience a sense of unity in every aspect of life.

Working with light leads to heightened awareness and self-knowledge. If you practise every day, you will begin to feel your body differently, along with the energy within you and the energy you take in from outside.

The quality of each person’s life is linked to the energetic state of their chakras. When they are balanced, life shows us its good side. When the chakras are blocked or too open, we experience its more difficult sides. In most cases the individual chakras are in different states, and only some are out of balance. The themes of these chakras show us in which areas of life we are struggling and what we need to work through.

There are many ways to work with the energy and light of the chakras: with suitable music, with crystals, through various exercises and through meditation. Opening and harmonising the chakras is a fairly slow process. The pace of change depends mainly on how quickly you are able to make the necessary changes in your life.

Here is another exercise that will help you see where the problem lies in your body.

  1. Sit comfortably and concentrate on the sensations in your body. Relax.
  2. Think of something pleasant. Notice what you feel in your body. Consider where you feel the euphoria – in which place or part of the body.
  3. Then think of something unpleasant, noticing how your body responds to the impression. Pay attention to where the sensation comes from – the same places or different ones?
  4. Repeat this two or three times.

In this exercise you can observe how your thoughts and emotions are felt in your emotional and mental bodies.

How the individual chakras work.

THE FIRST CHAKRA, known as the root chakra, radiates the colour red. It is connected with our life on Earth and with matters of a physical nature. It is worth starting with this chakra. Whether your root chakra is balanced determines how you cope in life and how you deal with everyday problems.

When this chakra is blocked or too open, we lack emotional balance, feel undervalued, suffer from worry, fear and insecurity, and take an overly materialistic approach to life.

You can harmonise the red chakra with crystals: carnelian, agate, haematite, tiger’s eye, garnet or ruby. Surround yourself with the colour red; meditating at sunrise and sunset is especially recommended.

THE SECOND CHAKRA, known as the sacral chakra, radiates the colour orange. It is the centre of feelings and emotions and the centre of sexual energy.

When this chakra is balanced, we are creative and emotionally stable, we enjoy life, feel enthusiasm, have good family relationships and a healthy balance between giving and taking.

When this chakra is blocked or too open, we don’t accept ourselves, lack self-respect, sacrifice ourselves for others, feel unjustified guilt and are oversensitive.

This chakra is harmonised with crystals: carnelian, citrine, moonstone and golden topaz. Meditate by moonlight while attuning the sacral chakra.

THE THIRD CHAKRA, the solar plexus chakra, radiates a sunny yellow. Through it we absorb the energy of the Sun, which strengthens our etheric and physical bodies.

This is the chakra through which we establish active relationships with our surroundings; from here our emotional energy flows outwards. It deals with matters of personality and is also the centre of power and wisdom. Through the solar plexus chakra we sense the vibrations of other people and respond to the quality of those vibrations.

When this chakra is balanced, we have a sense of self-worth and a strong personality, and we accept ourselves.

When the chakra is blocked or too open, we have worries, fear rejection and criticism, and feel anxious.

Harmonise this chakra with crystals: yellow citrine, calcite, sunstone, amber, malachite, tiger’s eye and topaz.

THE FOURTH CHAKRA, known as the heart chakra, radiates pink and green. This chakra links the spiritual world with the material world.

When this chakra is balanced, we feel love for ourselves and others, and we have compassion and forgiveness within us.

When the heart chakra is blocked or too open, we feel hatred, despair, disappointment and pain caused by wounds from childhood or earlier relationships, and we feel sorry for ourselves.

We harmonise this chakra with crystals such as rose quartz, tourmaline, aventurine, green jade or emerald.

THE FIFTH CHAKRA, known as the throat chakra, radiates light blue and turquoise. It is the centre connected with communication and the expression of your personality.

When this chakra is balanced, we are able to communicate with people, correctly interpret what we hear and trust ourselves.

When the chakra is blocked or too open, we have difficulty expressing our thoughts and emotions, and can be arrogant, stubborn and overly talkative.

We harmonise this chakra with crystals: aquamarine, turquoise, lapis lazuli or blue agate.

THE SIXTH CHAKRA, known as the third eye chakra, radiates indigo and is the centre of intuition and wisdom. When this chakra is balanced, we have a developed awareness, see our life and future intuitively, have access to unlimited knowledge, enjoy inner balance and respect both ourselves and others.

When this chakra is blocked or too open, we suffer headaches, see no purpose in life, lose track of what is happening in our lives, acknowledge only the outer world while ignoring our spiritual development, have difficulty learning and suffer from nightmares.

We harmonise this chakra with crystals such as amethyst, calcite, purple fluorite, azurite or sapphire.

THE SEVENTH CHAKRA, known as the crown chakra, radiates violet, gold and white. It connects us with our spiritual self, and in it all the energies of the chakras below come together.

When this chakra is balanced, we reach a level of mastery and have an expanded consciousness and selflessness. A person with a well-developed crown chakra radiates inner peace.

When the chakra is blocked or too open, the person feels a sense of unfulfilled power, frustration, loneliness, depression and chronic fatigue.

Make time for meditation that quietens the mind and body and regulates the crown chakra. You can use rock crystal, diamond, white tourmaline or amethyst to balance this chakra.

Intensive cleansing of the chakras and the aura should be a priority. Unblocked chakras hold all the information you need for a life full of prosperity and contentment.
