Magic and Witchcraft – The Synchronicity of Events

Magia i czary – synchroniczność zdarzeń

Few people know what synchronicity is. The theory, the work of the great psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung, became known in the 20th century. Magic assumes the existence of a system of universal and subtle connections that embraces the whole universe. All of us have experienced strange chance events and happy coincidences. Because the phenomenon is so widespread, scholars began to wonder whether something more than blind fate might lie behind it. Careful, systematic research has revealed evidence that the world we live in, like our own lives, holds more mysteries than was previously supposed.

Many scientists turned to parapsychology and magic to look for an explanation of these things.

The traditional Western view understood reality according to the principle of causality. Our minds habitually give meaning to events by linking them in a chain that runs from cause to effect.

According to Eastern philosophers, the events we put down to coincidence or chance challenge our basic assumptions about the nature of the reality around us. We should embrace new ideas of the world that go beyond the limits created by our expectations and assumptions, especially those concerning cause and effect.

Carl Gustav Jung was convinced that so-called “pure coincidences” deserved serious study. Over years of practice he noticed them both in himself and in his patients. They were often linked with dreams and premonitions. Jung used the term synchronicity for them. He had the impression that they were rooted in very strong unconscious feelings, which rose to the surface of consciousness at moments of stress or psychological transformation.

Many of us have had “prophetic dreams”. Jung devoted his last years to studying synchronicity from a scientific and psychological point of view. Physicists had succeeded in releasing the energy contained in the atom, and Jung asked himself: what if, by analogy, the forces within the human psyche could be released too?

Is it pure chance that, for example, you think of someone in the morning and then happen to bump into them in the street that evening? Is it just coincidence, or a message from your subconscious? Some people have a very strongly developed intuition that allows them to foresee what is coming; their hunches prove right and they have prophetic dreams. Others, however, are closed to this world because they believe firmly in the real, tangible world and pay no attention to spiritual growth.

Magic and witchcraft

As humanity developed, mysterious forces were attributed to people gifted with supernatural abilities, and we still meet such views today. Looking into the past, we find signs of belief in supernatural powers among the so-called barbarians and among the people of earlier ages and civilisations. People today still believe in supernatural forces, even though science has come to dominate human thinking. Very few people in the world have mastered the knowledge of magic and witchcraft in depth, yet a vast number believe that the world of magic exists.

Many centuries ago, in prehistoric times, magic in the broad sense was already practised. Looking back, we can find traces of magic among the Babylonians and other peoples of ancient times. Today many of us believe in the power of magic in the broad sense. Some fear it; others are fascinated by it and explore the realms of witchcraft. Very few people have truly mastered Magic. Although science denies that anything like magic exists, because it cannot be shown or touched, many of us believe in it nonetheless. Belief makes Magic real, and thanks to belief, magicians and those who practise witchcraft can carry energy from the inner spiritual world into reality.

Passages related to magic can be found in the Old and New Testaments, in the Qur’an and in the Torah. Magic has run through our entire existence since the dawn of humankind.

You need to understand that science cannot prove the existence of Magic with its methods, just as we cannot tangibly prove that God exists. Science does not look at the spiritual side of human beings and existence, and so it says that no such thing exists.

People who practise witchcraft should be mentally strong, have a natural aptitude for working with energies and possess a finely tuned intuition. Magicians study Magic all their lives, because it is such a vast field that it can never fully satisfy the mind’s thirst for knowledge.

We distinguish white, grey and black magic. White magic is beneficial: magicians and fortune-tellers draw on the positive energy of warmth and goodness. Grey magic is a mixture of good and bad energy. Black magic draws its strength from negative energy; it can harm people and bring destruction and chaos into their lives.

The magic of life

The magical tradition goes back thousands of years, predating Christianity, Judaism and other documented history. It thrived and grew stronger alongside the development of the monotheistic religions (Jewish Kabbalah, Christian Gnosticism, Christian Kabbalah, alchemy and astrology).

What all these forms of magical study, still practised today, have in common is working on your own personal development.

Today magic is a field that has been thoroughly obscured by certain historians of the Great Inquisition, who for a long time successfully tried to banish everything magical from our culture.

Only in the 20th century did the situation improve significantly. Even so, society is still marked by prejudice, misinformation and abuse, as well as the danger of magic being used for harmful purposes.

For many people, magic is associated with the impossible, with play, with a trip to fairyland. Few believe in Magic, because the modern world must always find an explanation for everything. And yet most people believe in God, who is, after all, magical, since he practises that magic himself.

You can see magic everywhere, even in children’s fairy tales, which are often based on old legends. And as we know, legends always hold a grain of truth. Greek mythology was once considered mere myth and legend – until the ruins of Troy were discovered.

Many adepts of magic – that is, people who practise it – base their studies on old tales, legends and myths, as well as on historical events.

In cultures different from ours, where occult practices were respected, the prevailing attitude in society encouraged a future adept to decide to set out on the magical path. Such people did not, and do not, have to overcome their own prejudices and strengthen their psychic powers single-handedly in order to enter the world of magic.

We must understand that using magic in life is like using any other talent – and almost all of us have talents. Practising magic, however, requires training and faith in your own abilities. To become an Adept of Magic, you must first look into your own psyche to find the corner that lets you believe that everything is possible and nothing is too good to be true.

Many people may find this a hard threshold to cross, because their view of the world has to be shaken and changed.

In Magic we reject the old ideas that limit us, and then new, endless possibilities open up before us.

In the Old and New Testaments, too, we find certain passages about charms, magic and prophecy. It is impossible not to notice that even today the media keep filling us with information about spells, witchcraft and rituals meant to help us – or to harm us. We need to understand that science will not give us every explanation of the mystery of existence. Extrasensory perception helps those who practise witchcraft understand the subject better. To practise witchcraft, you need to be a mentally strong person who approaches life intuitively. There is good magic and a somewhat darker kind – black magic. Whether a so-called “witch” is good or bad depends on the spells she casts. A self-respecting witch tries to help people, not to harm them.

A number of other occult disciplines are widely practised today. There are many cults and sects, each with its own beliefs, and there are real differences between them.

One of the popular areas of the occult is black magic. True magic is an old pagan religion that is far removed from devil worship. The witch has much in common with magic, as do the alchemists. This heritage dates back to the Middle Ages.

Magic and witchcraft make up a broad field. It includes necromancy, Romani (Gypsy) spells, amulets, witchcraft, African shamans, vampirism, sorcery and witches’ sabbaths.
